The concept was as follows:-
- A small group of 6 – 8 people, men and women, all u3a members, would meet once a month at a pub that is situated on the circular 505 bus route that operates between Spalding and King’s Lynn.
- The purpose is to relax in friendly company, put the world to rights, tell a few stories, cry on each other shoulders, have fun and cement friendship
- The choice of pub destination changes each month, the only criteria is that it is on the 505 bus route.
- The group members meet at the destination pub using the 505 bus and return home on the bus – nobody drives! everybody drinks! nobody has a discussion with the police!
- We do now have members that drive to the destination pub and that’s fine and drinking alcohol is not compulsory, we have tea/coffee drinkers, we just enjoy each other’s company!
- All group members must be at least 18 years old ;)! And ideally have a bus pass.
- There is no group membership fee, when we meet we all pay for our own drinks, snacks etc.
Now, in 2026, the group comprises 51 members!
Not all the members participate every month, if they did we would be in deep trouble with the bus operator, Stagecoach!! This group works on the basis of “come if you can”, and that works just fine; members have hospital appointments, grandchildren to supervise and holidays to take
If you are interested in making new friends or are new to the area this is a great way to start; please complete the Interest Group Form at one of our General Meetings and I will be in touch to arrange our first date.
